Social Agreement for Free, Fair and Democratic Elections in Bulgaria

The Civil Coalition for Monitoring of the Election Process started an initiative to monitor the upcoming elections. The Coalition offered the political parties, registered for the elections, to sign a Social Agreement for carrying out free, fair and democratic elections in Bulgaria, on April 4th 2013, at 11:00 in "Sheraton" hotel. The document was prepared by 8 NGOs, which would provide independent civil monitoring of the upcoming elections.

The aim of the Agreement is to engage the political parties in a transparent election campaign, in accordance with the standards for openness and accountability. The purpose is to prevent abuse of citizens’ electoral rights and to optimize the organization of the electoral process.

The document also foresees a commitment of the NGOs to carry out civil monitoring, based on the principles of independence, impartiality and constructive political dialogue with all participants in the electoral process, as well as to provide information to the public about the results of the monitoring.

The Coalition invited the political parties, coalitions and initiative committees, registered with CEC /Central Electoral Commission/, as well as non-governmental organizations, to support the initiative and join the Agreement.
